INFILLS WHO BENEFIT AND WHY
HOW COME PROPERTY INFILL HAS SO STEALTHILY BECOME THE "NEW NORMAL"?
IS THIS STEALTH NOT A VIOLATION OF MUNICIPAL TRANSPARENCY RULES?
WHY IS A GROUP OF OUTSIDERS NOW TRYING TO DEFINE OUR REALITY?
IS IT TO PROVIDE A GRAVY TRAIN FOR THE DEMOLITION DERBY?
The deeper problem is that BC lacks a significant manufacturing sector. REALTY and its related activities now provide 25% of the provincial GDP. But renter enterprises provide no true value added. They rely on the plundering of one's fellow man and cannibalism of the environment for their sustenance.
As infill proceeds, ratepayers who do not seek infill on their properties will be taxed at "its highest land-use potential", i.e., just as if they did have infills.
The idea is to increase the tax base so that a municipality can grab wealth by stealth. That is one of the hidden agendas, that have materialized in other jurisdictions that have gone gung-ho on "infill". And any additional taxes have not demonstrably improved the quality of life in these areas. Their quality has been degraded by the law of unintended consequences.
Are we living in OAK BAY, or are we now to become like JAMES BAY?
