Oh No! – Not Another Deceptive Densification Process
HomeThe rush is on. Excluding the summer months, there are only 5 months for Council to push "their" new densification initiative through before the early October 2022 Civic Election is in full swing. Nevertheless Council has fast-tracked “their” 2nd proposed, recently announced, single-family zoning, densification initiative. To process this zoning change Council has contracted with two more development consultant companies behind closed doors.
The format is basically the same as Council’s previous single-family densification, highly criticized, multi-tenant basement suite process. This process did not give residents the option to disapprove of this type of Oak Bay neighbourhood character-changing, high-impact densification.
Council’s format:
“How do you want your eggs? Fried, scrambled, boiled, etc.? Not, do you want, prefer or like eggs? This is notwithstanding that eggs provide benefits – most residents will not benefit from infill or multi-tenant suites, but will suffer the environmental, taxation and the many other impacts.
Please note:
We have received numerous emails requesting that Oak Bay Watch not succumb to, “A few petty and insecure complainers", and also legal advice that tenant is the correct legal term to use. In addition to this, the UVIC student newspaper "the Martlet" and the UVIC Student Tenant Advisory Service frequently use this term. Therefore we will also.
